What Will Be Your Takeaways From the Major ISE Event of the Year?

Recently, I had the privilege of representing members of the Institute and the ISE profession at the Engineering Public Policy Symposium in Washington, D.C., alongside IISE Immediate Past President Joe Hartman and IISE CEO Don Greene. It’s so important to be visible, make connections, and stay involved and informed with key players when and wherever possible throughout the year. And, we successfully achieved these objectives in D.C. It was a memorable trip and we made our mark as the public face of our association and profession.

It’s just as important that all of us make our mark and aim for visibility, knowledge-sharing and connections in our own lives and careers. Staying involved and networking with colleagues beyond our normal workplace or classroom setting keeps us fresh, motivated and keenly aware of the rapidly changing world around us so we can keep pace.  It’s healthy and wise to step out of our comfort zones as much as possible to challenge our intellect, exchange varying viewpoints and sharpen our skill set by participating on-site in educational events and truly getting involved in the Institute that unifies our diverse industrial and systems engineering universe.

We’re in luck. We have the perfect opportunity in the coming days to be at the pinnacle of our profession, the super meeting place for ISEs the world over. In a very relaxing, fun and stimulating part of the globe, we will gather with the best and brightest.  Of course, I am talking about the IISE Annual Conference & Expo May 19-22 at the Loews Royal Pacific Resort at Universal Orlando in Florida. I hope you are as fired up as I am about being a player in our very own “ISE Superbowl.”

While I’ve attended many IISE Annual Conferences over the years, this is my first as president. I can’t wait for the show to open and meet you there. Shout outs to all of you already registered for this event. If you haven’t yet registered, hurry – registration details are here. You can register on-site as well.

Leadership and friendship go hand-in-hand at IISE Annual as students, educators and industry professionals congregate, sharing experiences, knowledge and best practices. It’s a loaded platform from which you can pick and choose your learning and networking itinerary plus walk the exhibit hall viewing products, services and programs and talk with exhibitors, peruse poster sessions and go behind the scenes at facility tours. While most of these in-demand tours are sold out – two facility tours are still open. The Publix Refrigerated Distribution Center tour for students and the Nautique Boat Company tour.

After several years of attendance, I am still amazed at the camaraderie we share as we absorb the latest trends and technologies. You can’t walk away from IISE Annual unaffected or unimpressed. The program is stocked with nuggets of wisdom, intel and interesting insights. And, my hat’s off to the wizards behind the conference curtain. Our Annual Conference Program Chairs are the masterminds of an event built for you – the hard-working, problem-solving industrial and systems engineer, the professor tasked with preparing future ISEs and the student aiming for a fulfilling career in the many disciplines our field offers. These volunteers represent all walks of ISEs and ensure IISE Annual is for you and designed by you.

My bags are nearly packed for IISE Annual and my anticipation level is on the rise. It’s truly an honor to go to Orlando and represent you as IISE president during this amazing event. And, I can’t wait to continue along my growth and learning path by attending sessions and networking with you there. I look forward to seeing you in Orlando and want to hear about your conference experiences first-hand and via IISE Connect and social media – #IISEAnnual2018. Especially your conference takeaways!

Safe travels and see you beginning May 19 in the Sunshine State!
